Warren Spahn was an American professional baseball player who pitched in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1942 to 1965. He was a 12-time All-Star and won the National League (NL) Triple Crown in 1957. Spahn was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973.

Early life and career

Spahn was born in Buffalo, New York, on April 23, 1921. He began playing baseball at a young age and was a standout pitcher in high school. After graduating from high school, Spahn signed a contract with the Boston Braves. He made his MLB debut in 1942, but his career was interrupted by World War II. Spahn served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945.

After the war, Spahn returned to the Braves and quickly established himself as one of the best pitchers in the league. He was a member of the Braves' World Series championship team in 1948. In 1952, Spahn was traded to the Milwaukee Braves. He pitched for the Braves for the next 10 seasons and helped the team win two more World Series championships, in 1957 and 1958.

Legacy

Spahn retired from baseball in 1965. He finished his career with a record of 363-243 and a 3.09 ERA. He was a 12-time All-Star and won the NL Triple Crown in 1957. Spahn was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973.

Spahn was one of the most successful pitchers in MLB history. He was a master of control and deception, and he was able to pitch effectively for over two decades. Spahn was a true gentleman on and off the field, and he is considered one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

Personal life

Spahn was married to Lois Vermeersch from 1945 until her death in 2008. The couple had four children. Spahn died on November 24, 2003, at the age of 82.
