Van Johnson was an American actor, singer, and dancer who starred in over 50 films during the Golden Age of Hollywood. He was one of the most popular stars of the 1940s and 1950s, and was known for his All-American good looks and charming personality.

Johnson was born in Newport, Rhode Island, on August 25, 1916. He began his career as a dancer in Broadway musicals, and made his film debut in 1941 in the film Murder in the Big House. He quickly rose to stardom, and was soon cast in leading roles opposite some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including Esther Williams, Elizabeth Taylor, and Judy Garland.

Johnson's most famous role was probably as Ted Lawson in the 1944 film The Three Caballeros. In this film, he played a young man who travels to South America with his friends, Donald Duck and Jose Carioca. The film was a huge success, and Johnson's performance was praised by critics and audiences alike.

Johnson continued to star in films throughout the 1940s and 1950s. He appeared in some of the most popular films of the era, including You Were Never Lovelier (1942),Easy to Wed (1946),and The Last Time I Saw Paris (1954). He also starred in several musicals, including Meet Me in St. Louis (1944),Easter Parade (1948),and Brigadoon (1954).

Johnson's career began to decline in the late 1950s, as the popularity of the studio system began to wane. He continued to appear in films and television shows throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but he never regained the stardom he had enjoyed in the 1940s and 1950s.

Johnson died of a heart attack on December 12, 1979. He was 63 years old.
