When the Second World War broke out in 1939, Churchill was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty. In 1940, he became Prime Minister after Neville Chamberlain resigned.

Churchill led the United Kingdom through the darkest days of the war. He gave inspiring speeches that rallied the British people behind him. He also forged alliances with the United States and the Soviet Union.

In 1945, the Allies defeated Nazi Germany. Churchill resigned as Prime Minister shortly after the war ended.

Churchill died in 1965. He is remembered as one of the greatest leaders in British history.
