The SAS was founded in 1941, during the Second World War, as a raiding force to operate behind enemy lines in North Africa. The SBS was founded in 1940, as a unit of the Royal Navy, to carry out sabotage and reconnaissance operations along the coast of Nazi-occupied Europe.

Since their inception, the SAS and SBS have been involved in some of the most famous military campaigns of recent years, including the Falklands War, the Gulf War, and the War in Afghanistan. They have also played a key role in the fight against terrorism, including operations in Iraq and Syria.

Training

The training for the SAS and SBS is some of the most demanding in the world. Candidates must be physically fit, mentally tough, and have a proven ability to operate independently in hostile environments.

The SAS selection process is particularly grueling. It lasts for six months and includes a series of physical and mental challenges, such as a 40-mile march with a full pack, a 24-hour interrogation, and a live fire exercise. Only a small percentage of candidates make it through the selection process.

The SBS selection process is also very challenging. It lasts for four months and includes a series of physical and mental challenges, such as a 10-mile swim, a 50-mile kayak race, and a 24-hour interrogation. Only a small percentage of candidates make it through the selection process.

Once candidates have passed the selection process, they undergo specialized training in their respective fields. SAS soldiers are trained in parachuting, mountain warfare, close-quarters combat, and weapons handling. SBS soldiers are trained in diving, boat handling, explosives, and reconnaissance.

Operations

The SAS and SBS have been involved in a wide range of operations over the years, including:

* Counter-terrorism operations * Hostage rescue operations * Covert surveillance and reconnaissance operations * Direct action raids * Special operations in support of conventional military campaigns

The SAS and SBS have a reputation for being able to operate in any environment, from the deserts of the Middle East to the jungles of South America. They are also known for their ability to conduct precision strikes against high-value targets.

In recent years, the SAS and SBS have been heavily involved in the fight against terrorism. They have carried out operations in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan, and have been credited with killing or capturing a number of high-profile terrorists.
