Marilyn was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. Her mother, Gladys Pearl Baker, was a film cutter, and her father, Charles Stanley Gifford, was a salesman. Marilyn's parents divorced when she was young, and she was raised by her mother and a series of foster parents.
Marilyn began her career as a model in the early 1940s. She soon caught the attention of Hollywood producers, and she made her film debut in 1947.
