Formation

The Canadian Regiment was formed in 1775 by Colonel Moses Hazen, a Canadian-born officer who had served in the British Army. Hazen was a strong supporter of the American Revolution, and he believed that the Canadians would be willing to fight for their independence from Great Britain. He traveled to Montreal and Quebec, where he recruited volunteers for his regiment. The regiment was made up of both American and Canadian volunteers, and it quickly grew to over 500 men.

The Canadian Regiment first saw action in the Battle of Valcour Island in October 1776. The regiment was part of a fleet of ships that was attacked by a British fleet. The British were victorious in the battle, but the Canadian Regiment fought bravely and helped to cover the retreat of the American fleet.

At the Battle of Saratoga, the regiment played a key role in the American victory. The regiment also fought in the Battle of Yorktown, which was the last major battle of the war.
