Early Life and Education
Emeritus Professor James was born in 1940 in a small village in southern Nigeria. He attended primary and secondary school in his village before proceeding to the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in statistics in 1963.

After graduating from the University of Ibadan, Professor James worked as a statistician in the Nigerian civil service for several years. In 1970, he obtained a scholarship to study for a Master of Science degree in statistics at the University of London. He completed his Master's degree in 1972 and returned to Nigeria to resume his work in the civil service.
In 1975, Professor James obtained a Commonwealth scholarship to study for a Doctor of Philosophy degree in statistics at the University of Cambridge. He completed his PhD in 1979 and returned to Nigeria to join the faculty of the University of Ibadan.
Academic Career
Professor James's academic career at the University of Ibadan spanned over three decades. He held various positions in the Department of Statistics, including Head of Department and Dean of the Faculty of Science.
Professor James's research interests focused on applied statistics, particularly in the areas of health, education, and agriculture. He published numerous research papers in peer-reviewed journals and supervised many postgraduate students who went on to become successful statisticians in their own right.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of statistics, Professor James was awarded the prestigious title of Emeritus Professor by the University of Ibadan in 2005.
