The original Declaration of Independence was written in 1776 and is a complex and challenging document to read. This version has been updated to make it easier to understand while staying true to the original meaning.

Preamble

We believe that all people are created equal and have certain basic rights, such as the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Body

The British government has been violating our rights and we have repeatedly asked them to stop. They have refused, so we have decided to declare our independence from Great Britain.

We believe that as a free and independent nation, we will be able to better protect our rights and pursue our happiness.

We are determined to be free and independent, and we will do whatever it takes to achieve our independence.

We ask for the support of all people who believe in freedom and justice.

Signatories

The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 delegates from the 13 American colonies.

The signatories included:

  • John Hancock
  • John Adams
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • George Washington

Impact

The Declaration of Independence was a major turning point in the American Revolution.

It inspired the colonists to fight for their independence and it helped to unite them against the British.

The Declaration of Independence is also a powerful statement of the ideals of freedom and democracy.

It has inspired people all over the world to fight for their own freedom and independence.
