A Photo Of The Havana Skyline, With The Malecon In The Foreground And The Capitol Building In The Background. With My Back To Havana: An Immigrant Story From A Raft To A Startup

Cuba is a country that has long fascinated me. Its unique blend of history, culture, and politics has made it a destination that I have always wanted to visit. When I finally had the opportunity to travel to Cuba, I was eager to explore the island and learn as much as I could about its people and its way of life.

My journey began in Havana, the vibrant capital city of Cuba. Havana is a city that is full of life and energy. The streets are filled with people, music, and color. I spent several days exploring the city, visiting its many historical sites and cultural attractions. I was particularly impressed by the Castillo de San Carlos de la Cabaña, a 16th-century fortress that offers stunning views of the city and the harbor.

From Havana, I traveled to the countryside. I visited the Viñales Valley, a beautiful region of rolling hills and tobacco plantations. I also visited the city of Cienfuegos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is known for its well-preserved colonial architecture. Throughout my travels, I was struck by the beauty of the Cuban landscape. The island is home to a wide variety of ecosystems, from lush rainforests to pristine beaches.

One of the things that I found most interesting about Cuba was its people. Cubans are a warm and friendly people who are proud of their country and its culture. I was impressed by their resilience and their ability to overcome challenges. Despite the economic hardship that Cuba has faced in recent years, the people remain optimistic and hopeful for the future.

My journey to Cuba was an unforgettable experience. I learned a great deal about the country, its people, and its culture. I was particularly impressed by the strength and resilience of the Cuban people. I would highly recommend visiting Cuba to anyone who is interested in learning more about this fascinating country.

Here are some of the highlights of my trip:

  • Visiting the Castillo de San Carlos de la Cabaña in Havana.
  • Exploring the Viñales Valley, a beautiful region of rolling hills and tobacco plantations.
  • Visiting the city of Cienfuegos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is known for its well-preserved colonial architecture.
  • Meeting and talking to the Cuban people.
  • Learning about Cuban history and culture.

If you are planning a trip to Cuba, here are some tips:

  • Be sure to get a visa before you travel.
  • Book your accommodations in advance, especially if you are traveling during the peak season.
  • Bring plenty of cash, as credit cards are not widely accepted in Cuba.
  • Be prepared for the heat and humidity.
  • Learn a few basic Spanish phrases.
  • Be respectful of Cuban culture and customs.

I hope you enjoy your trip to Cuba as much as I did!
