The Unlikely Entrepreneur: from China to Amish Country
In the heart of Amish country, where rolling hills and horse-drawn buggies are a common sight, a Chinese immigrant has found unexpected success as an entrepreneur.
Peter Zhang came to the United States from China in 1996 with a dream of starting his own business. He had worked as a chef in China, but he knew that he would have to find a different way to make a living in his new country.

Zhang settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, home to a large Amish population. He quickly realized that there was a need for Chinese food in the area. The Amish, who are known for their traditional lifestyle, were not accustomed to eating Chinese food, but Zhang believed that he could win them over with his delicious dishes.
Zhang started out by selling Chinese food at local farmers markets. He would often set up a stand at the markets and cook his food on the spot. The Amish were initially hesitant to try his food, but Zhang's friendly personality and delicious cooking eventually won them over.
In 2002, Zhang opened his first restaurant, Peter's China House, in the town of Bird-in-Hand. The restaurant was an immediate success, and Zhang quickly became a fixture in the community.
Today, Peter's China House is one of the most popular restaurants in Lancaster County. Zhang has also opened two other restaurants in the area, and he employs a staff of over 50 people.
Zhang's success story is an inspiring example of how immigrants can achieve their dreams in the United States. He came to this country with nothing, but he was able to build a successful business and a new life for himself and his family.
Overcoming Challenges
Zhang's journey to success was not without its challenges. When he first arrived in the United States, he did not speak English. He also had to adjust to a new culture and way of life.
Zhang faced discrimination from some people because he was Chinese. He was also told by some people that he would never be able to succeed in business in Amish country.
But Zhang refused to give up on his dream. He worked hard and persevered, and he eventually achieved his goals.
Giving Back to the Community
Zhang is grateful for the success that he has achieved in the United States. He is committed to giving back to the community that has supported him.
Zhang regularly donates money to local charities. He also volunteers his time to help out at local events.
Zhang is a role model for other immigrants who are looking to achieve their dreams in the United States. He shows that it is possible to overcome challenges and achieve success, no matter where you come from.
Peter Zhang is an inspiring example of the American dream. He came to this country with nothing, but he was able to build a successful business and a new life for himself and his family. Zhang's story is a reminder that anything is possible if you work hard and never give up on your dreams.
