  • Christopher Meloni as Tom Stewart
  • Pamela Anderson as Kelly
  • Doug Savant as Mark
  • Wendy Robie as Traci's mother
  • Eric Roberts as Traci's father

Plot

The film opens with Traci Lords in a drug rehab center. She is being interviewed by a therapist, and she begins to tell the story of her life.

Traci grew up in a dysfunctional family. Her parents were divorced, and her mother was an alcoholic. Traci began acting at a young age, and she quickly became a successful child star. However, her fame came at a price. She was molested by her manager, and she began to use drugs and alcohol to cope with her emotional pain.

Traci's drug addiction led to her downfall. She lost her career, and she was forced to live on the streets. She eventually turned to prostitution to support her drug habit.

In 1991, Traci was arrested for making an adult film. She was convicted of obscenity, and she served two years in prison. After her release from prison, Traci got her life back on track. She became a successful author and speaker, and she now works to help other people who are struggling with addiction.

Critical Reception

Traci Lords: Underneath It All received mixed reviews from critics. Some praised the film's honest and unflinching portrayal of drug addiction, while others criticized it for being too graphic and exploitative.

Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film three stars out of four, and wrote: "Traci Lords: Underneath It All is a powerful and disturbing film that doesn't shy away from the dark side of addiction. Lords gives a brave and honest performance, and Rodriguez directs with a sure hand."

Janet Maslin of The New York Times was more critical of the film, writing: "Traci Lords: Underneath It All is a well-made but ultimately unsatisfying film. Lords is a talented actress, but the film's graphic depiction of her addiction is too much to bear. The film is more exploitative than enlightening."

Legacy

Traci Lords: Underneath It All has become a cult classic. The film has been praised for its honest and unflinching portrayal of drug addiction, and it has helped to raise awareness of the issue. Lords has become a role model for other people who are struggling with addiction, and she continues to work to help others.

The film has also been praised for its groundbreaking use of digital technology. Rodriguez used digital effects to create a number of realistic and disturbing scenes, including a scene in which Lords shoots up heroin.

Traci Lords: Underneath It All is a powerful and important film that deserves to be seen by a wide audience. The film is a reminder of the dangers of drug addiction, and it is a testament to the power of redemption.
