In the spring of 2022, the world watched in horror as the city of Mariupol, Ukraine, was besieged by Russian forces. For weeks, the city was subjected to relentless shelling and bombardment, leaving thousands dead and the city in ruins.
In her new novel, She Came From Mariupol, Natascha Wodin tells the story of one young woman's survival during this harrowing ordeal.
The novel follows the protagonist, a young woman named Nadia, as she tries to navigate the chaos and violence of the siege. Nadia is a nurse, and she witnesses firsthand the horrors of war. She sees people killed and injured, and she is forced to make impossible decisions about who to help and who to let go.
Despite the horrors she witnesses, Nadia never gives up hope. She is determined to survive, and she is determined to help others. She risks her own life to help the wounded, and she provides comfort to those who have lost everything.
She Came From Mariupol is a powerful and moving novel that tells the story of one young woman's courage and resilience in the face of unimaginable hardship. Wodin's writing is spare and unsentimental, but it is also deeply compassionate. She does not shy away from the horrors of war, but she also shows us the strength and resilience of the human spirit.
