Early Life

Moshe Dayan was born in Kibbutz Degania Alef in 1915. He joined the Haganah, the Jewish paramilitary organization, at the age of 14. In 1939, he was appointed commander of the Palmach, the Haganah's elite strike force. During World War II, Dayan fought against the Nazis in Europe. In 1948, he was appointed chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Military Career

Dayan was one of the most successful military commanders in Israeli history. He led the IDF to victory in the 1956 Suez Crisis, the 1967 Six-Day War, and the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
