In 1945, Auschwitz was liberated by the Soviet Army. Herbert was one of the few survivors. He was weak and sick, but he was alive. Herbert was eventually reunited with his mother and sisters. His father had been killed in the Holocaust.
After the war, Herbert and his family immigrated to the United States. Herbert struggled to adjust to his new life at first. He had nightmares about his experiences in the Holocaust.
