My family's history in the Land of Israel dates back to 1809, when my great-great-grandfather, Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, immigrated to Jerusalem from Belarus. He was one of the founders of the Volozhin Yeshiva, one of the most important centers of Jewish learning in the world. My great-grandfather, Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of Volozhin, was also a prominent rabbi and scholar, and he served as the rosh yeshiva of the Volozhin Yeshiva for many years.
In the late 19th century, my grandfather, Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz, moved to Jerusalem with his family. He was a renowned Torah scholar and author, and he served as the rabbi of the Etz Chaim Yeshiva in Jerusalem. My grandmother, Rebbetzin Sarah Karelitz, was a devoted wife and mother, and she was also a skilled weaver and embroiderer.
My father, Rabbi Moshe Karelitz, was born in Jerusalem in 1902. He was a brilliant student, and he studied at the Etz Chaim Yeshiva and the Hebron Yeshiva. He was ordained as a rabbi at the age of 20, and he served as the rabbi of several synagogues in Jerusalem. My mother, Miriam Karelitz, was born in Safed in 1905. She was a devout woman and a dedicated mother, and she was also a talented singer and musician.
My parents were married in Jerusalem in 1925, and they had 10 children. I am the youngest of their children, and I was born in Jerusalem in 1945. I grew up in the Geula neighborhood of Jerusalem, and I attended the Etz Chaim Yeshiva and the Hebron Yeshiva. I was ordained as a rabbi at the age of 22, and I served as the rabbi of several synagogues in Jerusalem.
I have always been fascinated by my family's history, and I have spent many years researching and writing about it. I have published several books on the subject, including "The Karelitz Family: A History of a Rabbinical Dynasty" and "Jerusalem Through the Eyes of My Ancestors." I am also a frequent lecturer on Jewish history and culture.
My family's history is a microcosm of the history of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. We have witnessed the joys and sorrows of Jewish life in this land, and we have played a small role in shaping its destiny. I am proud of my family's heritage, and I am committed to continuing their legacy of Torah scholarship and service to the Jewish people.
