Hugh Scott was born in Scotland around 1640. The exact place and date of his birth are unknown, but it is believed that he hailed from the Scottish Lowlands. In 1670, at the age of approximately 30, Scott decided to leave his homeland and seek a new life in the American colonies. He sailed to the Province of Maryland, where he settled in the town of Annapolis.
In Annapolis, Scott established himself as a successful merchant. He also became involved in local politics, serving as a member of the Annapolis Town Council. In 1674, he married Anne Brice, the daughter of a prominent Maryland planter. The couple had several children, including a son named John, who would continue the Scott family line.

John Scott (1675-1740)

John Scott was born in Annapolis, Maryland, in 1675. He followed in his father's footsteps by becoming a merchant and a local politician. He served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates and held several other public offices.
In 1700, John Scott married Mary Dent, the daughter of a wealthy tobacco planter. The couple had several children, including a son named Gustavus, who would become a prominent figure in the American Revolution.
